About Importation Taxes and VTA in Germany and European countries.
Recently a German collector, complain that he add to pay 19% of VTA tax on an item he bought from our website. Normally importation taxes on antiques in Europe are none, only the VTA, a local tax, is applied but not in such percentage. So we did our homework and after sending several email to the German Custom Web Service, we received an answer; which confirm what we already suspected. German custom clerks are not respecting the rules. A Tsuba is an antique more than 100 years old, which is also a collectible item, considering those two categories the VTA in Germany should be 7% not 19%.To avoid this kind of problem, from now we will write exactly the formula that is on the email we received from the German custom. And if necessary we will send this email (in English) to any German collector who asks for it. But we strongly encourage collector to ask for the correct information in German at their local custom office.
However since, the VTA is different in European countries, we will ask collectors to help us to build a list of what they should pay depending of where they live.
Also we will automatically apply a minimum discount of 7% covering the VTA tax in order that European pay a very small amount or no taxes, like if they were buying from inside the European community.
List of the percentage of taxes which apply in European countries, when goods are coming from abroad.
Danemark VTA is 5% + custom papers that cost $20.
Germany VTA is 7% but the custom clerks are asking wrongly 19%.
Switzerland VTA is 8% + custom papers that can cost from 15sf up to 35sf.
France TVA is 7% + custom papers that cost 21Euros.
Belgium VTA is 6%.
Italy TVA is 10% but for no reason customers can pay up to 22%.
